March 2020 Podcast: Old and New..with Lionel Richie

FeaturedMarch 2020 Podcast: Old and New..with Lionel Richie

As the old school song states, “Where do I begin?” I must admit. It’s been hard for me to make podcasts lately. Life is just a never ending steam of disappointments with a shimmer of good happening for me. But moreso bad than good mentally. It’s been a real struggle to enjoy things for long periods of time. And now the corona virus isn’t helping my mental state either. But, since we’ve all been quarantined, I’m forcing myself to try to get back to things I enjoyed. I can’t say whether or not I will make another podcast after this one. I will just take life as it goes and if I feel up to it, I will do it. It’s not like people listened a lot anyway so it’s not like there is a need for another person playing music when there are so many other podcasts better than mine.

But there I go again. Sorry about that. Anyhooters, here is a new one for you. Listen. Don’t. It’s there for whoever wants to consume. Thanks to anyone who does. And if you pass it, then that’s fine too.

Alright. It’s been a while, I admit. Life continues gets in my way. Constantly. And frankly it sucks. But I thought I would give you all a list of my top 50 albums of 2019. I like everyone else in the country depend on lists to get through life. So I thought I’d go ahead and show you mine, so to speak. I know some of these selections are nothing new if anyone knows me. And there were some surprises I must say. Music in 2019 was stellar for the DIYs, the left of center folks, and alternative music, and most IMPORTANTLY, WOMEN. Yup, women ruled this year in music. We were everywhere. And some of us finally got the LONG overdue recognition that was well deserved. Pop music – eh. Not so much to me. So. …and NUMBER 1:

1. Lizzo – Cuz I Love You – There is no way you could escape the badass force that is Lizzo this year. 2019 was HER year. From the club to the radio to commercials, Lizzo was pretty much in every year, on every playlist, or playing in every car. She’s a beacon of light in a world that was filled and is STILL filled with hate and evil. Her views on body positivity and self worth is something all of us of every size need to hear and live by on a daily basis. She’s all about love y’all. And she’s not going anywhere, and for that, she made 2019 great for music.

That’s it for now. Have a wonderful new year everyone and fingers crossed 2020 is a stellar year for music.

Troye Sivan’s Wild

Hello earbudders,

I know it’s been a long while since I posted anything. Just wanted to tip you off to a song I came across by Troye Sivan called, “Wild.” And no, I don’t mean the version that has been out since his record release. I’m talking about the re-worked one with Alessia Cara, you know, the Wild Things Are singer. She accompanies Troye on this version of “Wild.” I don’t know exactly what is Alessia’s obsession with wild things are, but I really think this is a great pop song for the summer. It’s got a rich melody and people chant singing in the background throughout the song. Although it’s not known if the “people” are just dubs of Alessia’s voice, I don’t really care. You KNOW when there’s chant singing, it’s going to be a good time. Take a listen and enjoy it. I certainly did. If the wild things are where Troye and Alessia are, then sign me up. Should be pretty righteous.

PS. I’m waiting for someone to mash up “Wild” with Tegan and Sara’s “Drove Me Wild.” Pretty much a no brainer.

Song of the Day: Nick Jonas’ “Chains”

I know I’m a little old for Jonas Brothers. I get that. The only song of theirs I know is “Burning Up” and no, it’s not a remake of the Madonna classic. It was a perfect pop gem and it was on my radio no shorter than a 1000 times a day. Never really gave them a second look.

Until Nick Jonas.

I will be honest, he is quite a tasty bit of eye candy. It’s hard to believe he’s so soooo muscular and brooding when it hasn’t been THAT long since he was the curly haired baby faced sibbling. I think we ladies all did a little bit of a happy dance when he finally became legal. He’s already released one solo album but this new single for his second album is just ridiculously tight, and catchy, and pop gold. It’s called “Chains.” The video is dark and mysterious, as you will see below but the melody is just incredibly addictive and that beat, played in the right music system, might blow out a few speakers. From the sparse beat in the first ten seconds, to the loud explosion of music during the chorus, it’s absolutely perfect for my headphones. I’ve always said that I don’t care who you are – if you have a good melody and beat I’m down. The song is about a woman who has a hold of him (the chains, if you will) and no matter how hard he tries to break them, the chains yank him back to her. He knows she’s no good, but he is just addicted. Poor guy. So I thought I’d pass this song along. And thank you Nick Jonas for giving my ears something new and fresh to listen to as summer ends. If the rest of the album sounds like this, I’m pretty much a fan for life, and I don’t care how old I am. I’m not ashamed.

And by the way, I’m glad you’re legal now.

But don’t take my word for it fellow earbudders, take a listen.

Podcast #5 for 2014. Bouncy Bouncy Bouncy …

As I battle this thing called major depression, it’s getting a bit harder for me to do this podcast. But I’m continuing to do it. I’m always hoping music will make me feel a bit better. And this list of folks does make life a bit more bearable. So I thought, as usual, I’d share with the crowd. It’s a lot of bouncy, dance-y, off the wall stuff folks. Usually I like to put together a mixture, but this time I found myself, for the sake of staying sane and stable, drawn to dance tunes or thought provoking tunes. You have been warned. So as I take another pill for the night, sit back, and relax. Thanks for listening.
