March 2018: The Return of the Beatcast

Welp. I’m back again. Here’s a new podcast for a new year. A mix of old, new, odd, and wonderful. It’s my favorite cosmic slop. No coffee necessary. Just hit play. So here I am sharing with you. I’m trying to get into the groove again, so it’s going to take some time. But these songs help me get through the day. I hope they do the same for you.

Enjoy.

Song of the Day: Nick Jonas’ “Chains”

I know I’m a little old for Jonas Brothers. I get that. The only song of theirs I know is “Burning Up” and no, it’s not a remake of the Madonna classic. It was a perfect pop gem and it was on my radio no shorter than a 1000 times a day. Never really gave them a second look.

Until Nick Jonas.

I will be honest, he is quite a tasty bit of eye candy. It’s hard to believe he’s so soooo muscular and brooding when it hasn’t been THAT long since he was the curly haired baby faced sibbling. I think we ladies all did a little bit of a happy dance when he finally became legal. He’s already released one solo album but this new single for his second album is just ridiculously tight, and catchy, and pop gold. It’s called “Chains.” The video is dark and mysterious, as you will see below but the melody is just incredibly addictive and that beat, played in the right music system, might blow out a few speakers. From the sparse beat in the first ten seconds, to the loud explosion of music during the chorus, it’s absolutely perfect for my headphones. I’ve always said that I don’t care who you are – if you have a good melody and beat I’m down. The song is about a woman who has a hold of him (the chains, if you will) and no matter how hard he tries to break them, the chains yank him back to her. He knows she’s no good, but he is just addicted. Poor guy. So I thought I’d pass this song along. And thank you Nick Jonas for giving my ears something new and fresh to listen to as summer ends. If the rest of the album sounds like this, I’m pretty much a fan for life, and I don’t care how old I am. I’m not ashamed.

And by the way, I’m glad you’re legal now.

But don’t take my word for it fellow earbudders, take a listen.

Band of the Moment: Kongos

I’ve been listening a lot to a South African/London band called The Kongos. Their mix of big drums, chants, and melodies make for a wonderful album. You know what they sound like? A mix between One Republic, Bastille, Coldplay, Boxer Rebellion, and maaaaybe a little of Kings of Leon. I know that’s quite the cosmic slop isn’t it? They have enough rock n’ rhythm songs to get the party started…or break stuff. I can hear this band on a soundtrack to a movie in an instant – OR at a keg party. And the best part about them is that the band is made up of brothers. Four brothers. The drums are incredible. You can definitely detect the world music influence in their music. Trust me. These guys are the tits. Check them out when you get a chance. Then thank me later.

Throwback Thursday: Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam.

Hello my dears.

So once again, it’s Thursday. New Thursday, new throwback. Today it’s Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam’s “I Wonder If I Take You Home.”

I LOOOOOOOVED this song. I loved this band. Don’t let the pink fool you. Lisa, you were brave for wearing this much pink but you know what, you rock it. I still don’t know what a Cult Jam is.. Can you spread it on bread? Can you spread it on bagels? Whatever the case, it sounded great. And the drums..oh the drums to this song are SO SO LOUD. She might look like a pink marshmellow puff, but it’s all good. It’s all good Lisa. We miss you. You want you to come back. They don’t make voices like hers anymore. And I also chose it because how many of us ladies tried to get our makeup right to match hers? C’mon. I know you know I’m right.

Love the hangover hair too. I also tried to copy that. But thank the baby buddha those pics will NEVER be seen. Don’t even try it people.

And seriously…what the hell is a Full Force?

So so so good. So watch and enjoy.

See you next Thursday.
